Ramona B. (Beserra) Points

Ramona B. Points of Middletown, PA, 97, entered peacefully into eternal rest with the Lord on March 5th, 2022 at her home.  She was born to the late Manuel Beserra and Sallie Wilson Beserra at the same home. 

She is predeceased by her loving husband John H. Points, a brother Jesse Beserra, and two sisters, Sara F. Barnes and Juanita L. Allen. 

Ramona attended public schools in Middletown, PA, graduating from Middletown Area High School as part of Class of 1942.  She then attended Thompson Business School in Harrisburg, PA.  After completion of business school she worked at Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown, PA and then proceeded to work at the Commonwealth of PA in Harrisburg and later at Mechanicsburg Naval Depot as a Supervisory Accounting Technician and retired with over 40 years of Service to care for her husband.  Even in her 90’s she expressed her longing to return to work again.

Deaconess Ramona Points lead an active and full spiritual life, loved her church family and kept her friends and family in prayer.  Her favorite verse was John 3:16. She joined Ebenezer AME under the pastorate of Rev. Joseph Gantt, and was baptized in 1957 at First Zion Primitive Baptist, Middletown, PA under the pastorate of Rev. Scott A. White.  She spent her lifetime working in the church, including the following roles:  Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, Pianist, Pro Tem of Trustee Board, Member of Susan T. Bryant Women’s Missionary Society, Member of Lay Organization, and Member of Middletown Interfaith. Not only did Ramona cheerfully give, she danced her offering up to the plate.

Ramona also supported her community by being a member and treasurer of Women Church United of Middletown, being a member of East Middletown Cemetery, by dutifully working the election polls, volunteering at the former Middletown Thrift Shop, and as a member of N.A.A.C.P.

Ramona leaves to cherish her memory, as she would frequently say, by her faithful and loving boys: Melvin Barnes Jr., Middletown, PA; Terry M. Barnes, Middletown, PA; and Maurice T. Barnes, Harrisburg, PA along with a host of many nieces, nephews, family, friends and neighbors.

Without a doubt, Ramona served her Church and Community well.  She has been an inspiration to many and her steadfastness serves as a beacon to those around her.  She remained loyal and loving to her family and all of her friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 11 AM at the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, 329 Market St., Middletown, PA 17057. A time of viewing will be held from 10 AM until the start of the service. Burial will follow at the William Howard Day Cemetery, Steelton, PA.
