Christine Carothers Slates

Christine Carothers Slates, of Palmyra, PA passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, at the age of 71.  Born in Summit, NJ, she was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy (Wahl) Carothers. 

After graduating from Chatham High School in 1969, Christine attended Hillsdale College and Defiance College, where she studied art history. Christine embraced motherhood full time prior to becoming a draftsman. Once retired from that profession, she pursued many interests and hobbies including her art and travels. A talented artist, Christine was also a strong supporter of local artists and enjoyed creating her own beautiful works of art. She was also a devoted volunteer with Susquehanna Service Dogs, for whom she raised two dogs, Cash and Seneca. She was a passionate gardener and often spent her days outside in her garden with her dog and visiting with friends. She loved to travel and admire the wonders of nature. Christine’s greatest joy in life was her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and all of her dear friends.

She is survived by her children: Kevin John Slates (Angela) and Sara Jane Martin (Robert); grandchildren: Henry Grieco, Lana Grieco, Lucy Grieco, and Matthew Slates; siblings: John Carothers (Betsy) and sister Linda Carothers Good (Robert).

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 10:00 AM, March 10, 2023, at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home. 25 W Pine Street, Palmyra PA 17078, followed by a memorial service. 

Burial will take place at West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, PA at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Christine’s memory to Susquehanna Service Dogs, 1078 Gravel Hill Road, Grantville, PA 17028.
