Donald Lee Clark, Sr., "Bun" 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born April 29, 1942 in East Donegal Township, he was the son of the late Alvin and Olive Clark. He was previously married to the late Virginia (Nerod) Clark.
Mr. Clark got his nickname from his sister, Maggie, who wanted a bunny for Easter. She didn’t get her bunny, but a few weeks later, she got a baby brother who she started calling “Bunny”, later shortened to “Bun”.
Bun attended Donegal High School where he earned Varsity Letters in football, basketball and baseball, graduating in 1960.
From 1960 – 1965, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. While in the Corps, Bun was assigned to the Military Security Detail during President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration day parade. He also served on Honor Guard Details for the Shah of Iran as well as King Hussein of Jordan’s visit to the 1964 World Fair.
In 2003, Bun retired from Wyeth Labs in Marietta. He was a life member of The Marine Corps League, as well as a member of The American Legion, The Navy Club and The Moose Lodge. He enjoyed annual trips to Saratoga Springs, NY to watch thoroughbred horseracing. He particularly enjoyed attending the 1st Marine Corps District reunions with fellow Marines with whom he served.
Bun is survived by his longtime companion, Deborah Sagerer of Mount Joy; two sons, Donald Lee Clark, Jr. and wife, Jody, of Mount Joy; Ronald “jake” Clark and wife, Jessica, of New Albany, Ohio and a sister, Margaret Haas, of Marietta. He was preceded in death by brother, George and Kenneth Clark and a sister, Betty Frymoyer.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Smedley -Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 29 N. Gay St., Marietta, PA 17547 at 11:00 AM. There will be no viewing. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment with full military honors will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
